Birch oil is extracted from the leaf buds of the tree of Betula lenta which belongs to the Betulaceae family, and the process employed in its extraction is steam distillation. Betula lenta is often referred to as B. odorata, pendula, B. alba var. pubescens or verrucosa. In common terms this oil is also known as the European white birch or the silver birch.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

This tree from which Birch oil is extracted originated in the Northern hemisphere. It is capable of growing up to the height of 15 to 20 meters. It is mainly used for decorative purposes. Its branches are slender and the color of its bark is silver white. Its leaves can be described as oval in shape and light green in color. In the ancient times, the buds of this plant were used in some of the hair treatments.

INTEGRANT

The chemical composition of this oil consists of salicylic acid, methyl salicylate, betulene and betulenol.

It is extracted using the process of steam distillation from the leaf buds of Betula lenta.
