The Botanical Name of Cinnamon Leaf Oil is Cinnamomum verum. It is extracted from the leaves of the plant through the process of steam distillation. This is a rust colored tree which has the ability to grow up to 15 meters high. The tree bears small green and shiny leaves with beautiful white flowers and purple berries of oval shape. It is native to Sri Lanka but now, it has been naturalized in south East Asia. There lies a number of species which are sold under the name of cinnamon like C. burmannii, C. cassia and C. loureiroi.

Properties It is brownish yellow to dark yellow liquid.
Aroma This Oil has a warm, spicy and clove like smell.
Integrants The main chemical constituents of the Cinnamon Leaf Oil are eugenol acetate, eugenol, benzyl benzoate and cinnamic aldehyde.
Therapeutic Properties The therapeutic properties of cinnamon leaf oil are tonic, emmenagogue, astringent, analgesic, antibiotic, antispasmodic, cardiac, aphrodisiac, carminative, insecticide, antiseptic, stimulant, stomachic, and vermifuge.
Blends Well With Cinnamon Leaf Oil blends with cloves, grapefruit, rosemary, lavender, cardamom, benzoin, frankincense, ginger and thyme.
Precautions This Oil can sometimes cause irritation to the mucus membranes. Since, this oil contains emmenagogue so, it should not be used during the phase of pregnancy. Also, high dosage can result into convulsions.
